Hardware Acceleration for Neuromorphic Vision Algorithms
نویسندگان
چکیده
Neuromorphic vision algorithms are biologically inspired models that follow the processing that takes place in the primate visual cortex. Despite their efficiency and robustness, the complexity of these algorithms results in reduced performance when executed on general purpose processors. This paper proposes an application-specific system for accelerating a neuromorphic vision system for object recognition. The system is based on HMAX, a biologicallyinspired model of the visual cortex. The neuromorphic accelerators are validated on a multi-FPGA system. Results show that the neuromorphic accelerators are 13.8X (2.6X) more power efficient when compared to CPU (GPU)

A spiking neural network model of 3D perception for event-based neuromorphic stereo vision systems
Stereo vision is an important feature that enables machine vision systems to perceive their environment in 3D. While machine vision has spawned a variety of software algorithms to solve the stereo-correspondence problem, their implementation and integration in small, fast, and efficient hardware vision systems remains a difficult challenge. Recent advances made in neuromorphic engineering offer...
متن کاملNeuromorphic Hardware As Database Co-Processors
Today’s databases excel at processing data using fairly simple operators but are not efficient at executing operators which include pattern matching, speech recognition or other cognitive tasks. The only way to use such operators in data processing today is to simulate spiking neural networks. Neuromorphic hardware is supposed to become ubiquitous in complementing traditional computational infr...
متن کاملBenchmarking neuromorphic vision: lessons learnt from computer vision
Neuromorphic Vision sensors have improved greatly since the first silicon retina was presented almost three decades ago. They have recently matured to the point where they are commercially available and can be operated by laymen. However, despite improved availability of sensors, there remains a lack of good datasets, while algorithms for processing spike-based visual data are still in their in...

Neuromorphic Sensory Processing Using Analog Very Large-Scale Integration Circuits Neuromorphic circuits are analog circuits that implement models of biological systems for sensory processing. Because the neuromorphic circuits share the same physical constraints as their biological counterparts, they have similar organizational structures and use similar strategies for optimizing robustness to ...
متن کاملConverting Static Image Datasets to Spiking Neuromorphic Datasets Using Saccades
Creating datasets for Neuromorphic Vision is a challenging task. A lack of available recordings from Neuromorphic Vision sensors means that data must typically be recorded specifically for dataset creation rather than collecting and labeling existing data. The task is further complicated by a desire to simultaneously provide traditional frame-based recordings to allow for direct comparison with...
